This list of castles in England is not a list of every building and site that has "castle" as part of its name, nor does it list only buildings that conform to a strict definition of a castle as a medieval fortified residence. Probably once connected by bailey wall, AD1415 list of castles has "Turris de Hexham".  • Crèvecœur Many buildings known to incorporate northern pele towers in their fabric, but are no longer castle-like—such as the Red Lion Tower in Haltwhistle—have been excluded. The Percy family purchased it in 1309 and began a series of ambitious building projects, setting it up as the seat of their lands and a comfortable home as well as a formidable fortress. Its location facilitated as a stopover for troops from Nicosia, the medieval capital, on their way to the coastal harbours of either Famagusta or Aliki. The Château de Termes is a ruined castle near the village of Termes in the Aude département of France.  • Guédélon It features regularly in movies, including as a stand-in for Windsor Castle and as Castel Gandolfo in The Da Vinci Code.
